Children in junior church can now learn the story of Jesus Christ with a few simple twists and turns of a Rubik cube lookalike—EvangeCube.
Introduced in India by a Nagpur ministry set up in February, these cubes are made in Delhi’s Chattarpur area, from where they are distributed across Asia.
‘‘The gospel can be introduced easily using the cube,’’ says Pastor Danny Abraham, 33, who heads Texas-based EvangeCube Global Ministry’s Indian wing. And over 700 such cubes have already been distributed free in New Life churches across Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, he says.
New Life Churches, which are known to spread the gospel using real life testimonies, were the obvious choice because they are more open to new gospel teaching tools, says Chattarpur-based manufacturer Thomas Mathew.
‘‘They use musical programmes and street drama to talk about Christ’s message,’’ he says.
‘‘The EvangeCube is like any other puzzle that you can play with at home,’’ says Pastor Shekhar Kalyanpur, 44, who oversees various New Life Church activities in Mumbai. ‘‘We use it mostly to explain the gospel to children.’’
‘‘Sometimes our friends talk about personal encounters, which changed their lives and attitude towards God,’’ says Reverend Susai Joseph, 73, founder and president of New Life Churches in India, who has gifted these cubes to his grandchildren.
‘‘We have our own means of advertising using leaflets and our message reaches those who God wants to reach,’’ says Mathew from Chattarpur, adding that the ‘‘manufacturing details are irrelevant.’’
Pastor Abraham now plans to ‘‘conduct 30 seminars in 10 Indian states and distribute 10,000 EvangeCubes by the end of the year.’’
The picture-story cubes will soon be available in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Uttaranchal, he says.
The EvangeCube Global Ministry’s Texas parent has established branches in East Africa, India, Middle East and Russia, with China being the other major manufacturer of these cubes.
