The Conversion Agenda

"Freedom to convert" is counterproductive as a generalized doctrine. It fails to come to terms with the complex interrelationships between self and society that make the concept of individual choice meaningful. Hence, religious conversion undermines, and in extremes would dissolve, that individual autonomy and human freedom.

I think this site provides an amazing amount of information and enlightenment to folsk of all different faiths.

If there were to be tolerence and peace in this world, "the act of converting economically backward people" has to be abolished.

Please keep up the good work and we'll do what we can to bring in more identity to this problem.

Great work. Great site.

However its important to maintain an outlook and opinion on conversion , that is not fanatically biased . Lets not get "pro-hinduism" and "anti- all-else"!
Conversion is a violation beyond any doubt. It banks on the simple-mindedness and ignorance of the would- be believer, in order to garner his faith. This in effect is equivalent to cheating a person, and no true religion advocates this.

How about re-conversions back to Hinduism?

Cant we fight back the missionaries in their own game.?

We can also reach out "as hindus" to the all-this-while ignored masses.

What disturbs me more is this large section of oppressed , say "lower castes", who are still being persecuted with in the hinduism fold.

Will RSS/VHP do something about that too!!

I was thinking that you might be interested in viewing or participating in the site www.talk2action.org

The site talks about the Christian Religious Right in the US, and how much of the evangelical agression you are writing about is also taking place in the US as well as being exported elsewhere...

Thanks for the great work!

This is a great sight. Is it not strange that while all the Congress led Governments call Hindus fighting for there own survival/Religion and culture as Communal and never once they question the conversions. A Hindu can actually pray where he is a temple and also a Church. Infact I have attended mass in Church during my school days which is a Delhi based Cristian Missionay school run by Society of Jesuits. While we all prayed there the priest refused to give us hindu students the bread and the wine as we were not BAPTISED - which I found to be blatantly communal. Strange is it not thay THEY the Christian priest and Missionaries are never call communal whereas we who have talorated them all this while and have made them feel athome are called COMMUNAL. If the Missionaries are so brave - I would love to see them converting people in Saudi Arabia.

Anyhow you guys keep up the good work for our politicians will not and esp so today when we have a government in proxy run by an Italian Roman Catholic - with her semi Indian Christian Children with a name Gandhi

Great Site! Here are some news items that you and readers may find interesting about tactics used by Christians for conversions in Punjab. Also, I think Bollywood should be banned, I feel it has been degrading the rich culture of India. I find my kids can't learn anything good from Bollywood movies at all, especially being a Sikh hardly any Sikh values or good Sikh role models for future generations. May be it is acceptable for majority Hindus. I did a post on bollywood a while back as well. If India keeps following and copying everything western, and then along with mass faith conversions, there will hardly be any India in next 200 years.

Great site, some here may be interested in another anti-missionary site for Jews,

http://www.outreachjudaism.org/

but as their religion is supposedly the forerunner to Christianity they can use their scripture and theology to debunk missionary claims, might be useful for other faiths. As a pro-Hindu atheist I could not agree with this site more. "Intellectual criminals" you have no idea how apt a description that is, I'm stealing that phrase.

Hi,
This is a very informative blog. I visit here regularly. Thanks very much for creating and maintaining it, it is a very necessary resource.

However, this time my visit is for a different purpose. I know the guestbook is not the place for this, but I didn't know how else to contact you.

I was wondering if you already know about the troubling situation Ramar Sethu (Rama's Bridge) is facing thanks to Sonia and her UPA government:
- More information on the matter can found at http://ramasetu.blogspot.com/ and http://www.ramsethu.org/ and in more places
- There's a petition to Save Ramar Sethu at http://www.petitiononline.com/ramsetu/petition.html

At present, there's been insufficient coverage of the matter, so most Hindus are unaware of what's happening to such an important symbol of our heritage. If you find the matter worthwhile and if you have not already done so, could you bring this issue to the attention of your readers or general friends?

Thanks for reading. And thanks again for your blog.

Long Live Hinduism!

I believe that proselytizing missionaries are a menace to Hindu society.

I would be an ungrateful wretch if I were to tell you that my beloved “Devi ma” and “Krishna” do not exist…..they have helped me in countless number of ways! I would be NOTHING without them!

BTW, there is only ONE God; HE just has several names (call HIM however you like). Just think of it this way — a child may have an official name at school but several “pet” names at home (the names are many, but the child is still the same!)

Finally, I can state with confidence that my “Krishna” will not foresake me; HE will grant me the salvation that I am seeking. I also know that I am not going to “burn in hell” for not “surrendering” to “Jesus Christ” or “Allah”!

Dear brothers and sisters, there is no caste and creed. As mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita, one’s caste is not determined by one’s birth, but by one’s actions.

Long live Hinduism! I am proud to be a Hindu. My Hindu brothers and sisters, let us unite and fight the forces that are destroying our unique culture and heritage. Jai Sheranwaliye, tera jawab nahin!

I was browsing through the web and came across an interesting petition to protest the ‘cross’ symbol on India’s National Currency (the recently issued Rupee 2 coin). As a secular Indian, it concerns me to see the use of a religious symbol on national currency in order to promote religion. Also, the map of India is missing and Satyamev Jayate is smudged/missing on these newly issued Rupee 2 coins. I believe that the use of any religious symbol on the national currency for promoting religion is a gross violation of India’s underlying ’secular’ principles. It violates the Constitution of India which proclaims that India is a ’secular’ state. Here’s the link in case you are interested in reading the protest petition against the ‘cross’ on the Re2 coin. www.petitiononline.com/cross2cn/petition.html

VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ: MESSAGE TO ALL INDIANS (REGARDLESS OF THEIR FAITH)

PLEASE KEEP INDIA SECULAR! THIS MESSAGE IS NOT AGAINST ANY RELIGION BUT RATHER ABOUT RESTORING INDIA'S SECULAR PRINCIPLES.

Hello,

The following message CONCERNS ALL INDIANS (RESIDENTS AND NON RESIDENTS (REGARDLESS OF THEIR FAITH). PLEASE READ AND SHARE WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

MESSAGE:

As a secular Indian, it concerns me to see the use of a religious symbol on India's recently issued 2 Rupee coins in order to promote religion. Religious symbols have never been used before on national currency since it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL (NOT SECULAR) to do so. Symbols on the NATION'S CURRENCY should represent ALL the people of India.

The Reserve Bank of India recently issued a 2 rupee coin with a Christian crusader's cross on it (see picture below or Google it). The Government of India claims that the symbol is a new way to represent "unity in diversity", and that it is not a "cross". However, the fact remains that the symbol on the 2 rupee coin is a Christian crusader's cross! Equally surprising is the fact that, on these newly issued 2 Rupee coins, the map of India is missing and 'Satyamev Jayate' is either omitted or smudged!

I believe that the use of ANY religious symbols on the NATION'S CURRENCY to promote religion constitutes a gross violation of India’s ’secular’ principles. It violates the Constitution of India which proclaims that India is a ’secular’ state. Here’s the link in case you are interested in reading and signing the protest petition against the ‘cross’ on the Rupee 2 coin. www.petitiononline.com/cross2cn/petition.html

PLEASE PROTEST AGAINST THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL (NON SECULAR) USE OF CHRISTIAN CRUSADER'S CROSS ON INDIA'S NATIONAL CURRENCY FOR PROPAGATION OF CHRISTIANITY IN INDIA. PLEASE KEEP INDIA SECULAR!
(www.petitiononline.com/cross2cn/petition.html. The Government should not be promoting ANY religion!

Is India really SECULAR? Why are we suddenly seeing sectarian religious symbols on INDIA'S NATIONAL CURRENCY (eg “cross” on Re 2 coins)? Where are the symbols that represent ALL the people of India -- why is THE MAP OF INDIA missing and SATYAMEVA JAYATE omitted/smudged on these newly issued coins? The use of ANY religious symbols on INDIA'S NATIONAL CURRENCY for promotion of religion is UNCONSTITUTIONAL (NOT SECULAR)! NO RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS ON INDIA'S NATIONAL CURRENCY, PLEASE! LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!
Read and sign the petition online (www.petitiononline.com/cross2cn/petition.html)

KEEP INDIA SECULAR!

It's really important that we take action against this issue ASAP. KEEP INDIA SECULAR!

Jai Hind!

7 days time,earth age is 6000 years
approx,no news about jesus whereabout from 13 years to 27 years and no history, holy angle
will reside in our heart only if
bapitised.otherwise non believers
will be sent to hell.jesus first
coming resulted his crusification
in cross and what about his second
coming- whether again in cross or
in what mode he will meet his end.
present sufferings to the people is
due to sathan work who induce them
to do wrongthings against jesus.
so it is clear that jesus suffered
at the hand of sathan by bleeding
in cross on his first coming becouse he did wrongthings to our

a call of thought to possible
converst from spiritual hinduism to commercial christianity-

join first in following society before getting bapitised-

www.theflatearthsociety.org

if you believe earth is flat as per
verses of bible, then join in above
society as member first before getting bapitised.( join in fools
paradise)

unquote - no fool on earth ever think of earth is flat but only bible believers and hence galilio
was sentenced to prison by vatigan
then as he found out earth is oval
shape.in bhavath geeta lord krishna
told about the shape of earth and earth rotation.

hope this is enough for anyone to
think twice before converting.

hindus believe in core theory-
ATHMA (immoral soul),KARMA(good and
bad deeds),JANMA( punar janmas-previous births),MOKSHA(ultimate salvation to end up rebirths and reach godhood)
CHRISTIANITY THEORY ARE-

MORTAL SOUL ATTACHED TO THE HUMAN
BODY,PERMANENT EVERLASTING HEAVEN
AND PERMANENT HELL,BAPITISING TO GET HOLY ANGEL COMES TO THE HEART,
CONFESSION OF SINS TO REDEEM AND GET LORDS BLESSING,JUDGEMENT DAY
WHEN JESUS SECOND COMING TO EARTH.

now from above logic of christianity, deads are brought to churches and pray before dead bleeding god in cross before buried in earth with tomb hoping this body will resurrect upon jesus
second coming and join in his kingdom. so no rebirth ,no karmas
attached to the bodies.

from the above theory, can christianity explain why a lady born in italy served as waitress in a london resturant came to india to rule as proxy PM- WE HINDUS CALL IT IS KARMA IN HER PREVIOUS BIRTHS WHICH BROUGHT HER TO INDIA AND EVELVATED TO SUCH POST

can chrisitanity explain why such good fortune to this uneducated waitress-why lord jesus bless alone
if they say it is due to grace of jesus, what about so many fathers and priests, archbishops who pray to lord 24 hours.do they not get the grace of lord but only to this
allien lady who did not know till
25 years age the map of india.

now christians missionaries after realising the poor hindus do not have any money to bury the dead as buying land space is expensive for them, suddently changed its commercial policy that dead bodies
of christians can be cremated in fire and no need to bury in coffin.
in this case, what will happen to those people reduced to ashes to raise up on judgement day when jesus comes- will their ashes go to hell AND bodies to heaven.
what a foolish theory and covert commercial approach to fool illerate hindus by misleading them
and changing logics to suit the converts to their situation time to time like a commercial firm.

recent vatigan approaches are-
a) previous pope denied the visit
of st thomas to south india but said he came up to punjab.
then what is the tomb in st thomas mount in chennai? it is false story
created by missionaries.
b)children below 8 years who were not bapitised before the birth of jesus and those children kept in a
place called "LIMBO"were last year
sent to heaven by a special prayer
in vatigan- does it not look like a board meeting for commercial firm
on changing policy.

christianity is the curse the society and cancer to the humanrace.hell with it.

The word "forced conversion" is an oxymoron because if there is force then there is no true conversion and a true conversion can never be forced. This is a time for mature dialogue between people of different view points. Hatred, violence, intolerance has never achieved anything. Truth must be sought with an open heart and mind. First let us treat each other with respect and dignity irrespective of caste, creed, gender or nationality.

Please help me!!
My family have been the victim of these conversion tricks, wherein my brother started having blind faith in Jesus.
During his school time (not even a convent school) one of his teacher had told him that he should not believe in Hinduism, and jesus is the ONLY GOD. Now, he has been brained washed such that he doesn't get involved in any rituals in family, he don't come to home as well don't get involved in social activities. He thinks that hindu gods are devils, they bring negative energy to you. Jesus is the only cure for anything.
I want my brother back. Please help me with suggestions to solve this problem.
Thanks alot,

Did you check the Biblet? Then see what Hindu mythology says about our poor earth

In Hindu mythology, Chukwa is the first and oldest turtle, supporting the Earth. In some accounts, she supports the elephant, Maha-pudma, who supports the Earth. The turtle swims in Ksheera Sagara (the primordial ocean of milk).

So Maha-pudma is the elephant that the world rests on. Maha-pudma, in turn, is supported by the tortoise Chukwa that swims through Ksheera Sagara.

Please the debate in the Frontline (September 26, 2008) to get a complete understanding of events in Orisssa.

http://www.frontline.in/

H.M. Seervai, the eminent author of Constitutional Law of India, whom the Supreme Court often cites in its many judgments as an authority in support of its conclusions, has pointed out in Volume 2 (1993) of his book that it was unfortunate that the legislative history of Article 25 was not brought to the Supreme Court’s attention in this case (page 1287). Seervai wrote:

Forced conversion must be curbed. Freedom of religion guaranteed in Article 25(1) is not limited to teh religion in which a person is born but includes any religion.

“The right to propagate religion gives a meaning to freedom of choice, for choice involves not only knowledge but an act of will. A person cannot choose if he does not know what choices are open to him. To propagate religion is not to impart knowledge and to spread it more widely, but to produce intellectual and moral conviction leading to action, namely, the adoption of that religion. Successful propagation of religion would result in conversion” (italics supplied by Seervai). Seervai concluded his discussion thus: “The Supreme Court’s judgment is clearly wrong, is productive of the greatest public mischief and ought to be overruled.” The huge atmosphere of prejudice against Christians in Orissa and elsewhere is based on a myth that conversion is unconstitutional. The words of Seervai, who passed away on the Republic Day in 1996, are indeed prophetic.

Seervai also explained the basic misconception in the judgment of Chief Justice Ray. He wrote: “Ray C.J. mistakenly believed that if A deliberately set out to convert B by propagating A’s religion, that would impinge on B’s ‘freedom of conscience’. But, as we have seen, the precise opposite is true: A’s propagation of his religion with a view to its being accepted by B gives an opportunity to B to exercise his free choice of a religion.”

FREEDOM OF RELIGION

Stop all forced conversions. None incluidng (Parents or family or society or anyone) has the roght to convert a person. I suggest that the lawmakers should pass a law requiring each citizen to file (register) his or her religion once in every five years (same way as we file income ax returns) > Citizen shoudl have the freedom to keep the faith of his own choice of Religion. NO ONE SHOUD FORCE HIM TO ACCEPT ANY FAITH.

ONLY through this way forced religious faith on a citizen can be stopped. Anyone forcing a citizen to choose a religion deserves to be punished severely.

N. Mohandas

Can a family (society) force a citizen to accept a religion in which he/she was born?

SANATANA DHARMA guarantees individual freedom to chose and practice what the individual think is best for them from all sources and this freedom exists in all aspects of his or her life. However the JudeoChristian concept of “Freedom of Religion” is a misnomer and arises out of religious exclusivist thinking, need for separatism and fanatic notion which is against the fundamental ethics of DharmicTraditions. Indians at large, being the follower of SANATANA DHARMA (Hindus) are free to embrace the entire spectrum of religious, spiritual, cultural traditions that exists on this planet earth. A person is free to even propagate his or her own spiritual or religious doctrines if it is deemed appropriate. This explains the many spiritual gurus and yogis who are freely propagating their sampradayas (paths) to various groups of people. The freedom also extended to even deny in the existence of God. This is True freedom. Remember there is no any sort of "conversion" here. In fact there is no such thing called "conversion" in the vocabulary of the DharmicTraditions.

However the foreign JudeoChristian notion of "Freedom of Religion" which is primarily based on "conversion" of one individual to a particular mode of religion and worship by restricting the freedom of an individual to seek spiritual knowledge from other sources or traditions is fundamentally against the spirit of religious or spiritual freedom. This is an act of entrapping the converts into a particular believe system and to turn them against others or even be destructive. It is totally against individual freedom and it should be opposed and outlawed.

Thus in reality any act of conversion from SANATANA DHARMA to another religion has nothing to do with “freedom of religion”, but rather opposed to this very concept. Here we are actually converting from “religious freedom” to a “narrow religious dogma”. The concept of “religion” itself is a JudeoChristian origin that has no equivalent in the DharmicTraditions. Here we only have Dharma as our religious outlook as our guiding principle. SANATANA DHARMA or Hindu-“ism” is not a “religion” in similar since as Christianity or Islam which is based on one prophet, one book, one creed and single mode of worship. Whereas SANATANA DHARMA represents hundreds of prophets, books, and religious or spiritual tradition which has no objection to accept Christianity or Islam into its fold.

Therefore religious conversion has nothing to do with “Freedom of Religion", but rather it is a battle between propagation of religious exclusivism, separatistism and intolerance towards the fundamental of freedom itself (that represents the very notion of pluralism, coexistence, tolerance and respect) as in SANATANA DHARMA.

Why are Hindu temples under Govt control while Churches and Mosques are not? Govt loots Hindu temple money and uses the funds to dole out Muslim Haj subsidies and build Christian churches. Protest this nonsense! Hindu temple money should be used for the welfare of less fortunate Hindus and promotion of Hindu culture, not for the promotion of Islam and Christianity!

Anyone ever tell you that you nurse too much hatred towards one religion? Have some faith on the religion that you have practiced all your life. The Christians have had all the time in the world(Christianity was introduced in India in 80 A.D.)to convert Hindus, we also had the Muslims trying like hell to do the same. Both have failed and i doubt they will ever be able to achieve it. So again i same the same thing remove the hatered and nitpicking, it shortens your life and have faith in your people and in your religion.

I am from kerala tamilnadu border district of kerala called palakkad, taluk chittur. here, in a place called nallepily, a christian missionary runned school, called SHALOM SCHOOL, reportedly runned by IPC, charging a neck breaking fees for all non christians, reportedly trying to convert people in this area, where scheduled caste colonies are higher in numbers. spreading notices, home canvasing has been reportedly done. I have this information from my friend, a resident of nallepilly's too rural area. And in many neighbouring parts of this place, christian missionaries are active, where, tamils are living in high concentrations. RBC, a natural disaster based church, is the major injector of evangelism. please defend the churches and do ghar wapsi here. have to first destroy basic platform of churches. the change in demography here have to be evaluated as christian-islam lobby is behind this conversions. and be careful on while defending them.
