The police here has questioned hundreds of activists belonging to Sangh Parivar organisations in connection with the killing of a pastor in Hyderabad.
Police took around 200 activists belonging to the BJP, VHP, RSS and ABVP into custody from across the district and questioned them during raids late on Thursday night and on the wee hours of Friday.
Police raided the RSS office at Kakaji Colony in Hanamkonda late on Thursday night and took four RSS activists along with them for questioning.
On coming to know of the raid, former city mayor T. Rajeshwar Rao, Kisan Morcha State president N. Venugopal Reddy, and BJP district unit president G. Premender Reddy went to the RSS office and argued with the police asking them not to raid the office at the late hour.
After heated arguments, police took the former mayor and the BJP leaders along with them to the Hanamkonda police station and let them off in the wee hours of Friday.
Police also picked up scores of active BJP, ABVP, VHP and RSS members from their residences and questioned them. Members of the BJP and Sangh affiliates alleged ill-treatment and manhandling of one of their activists, Mallaiah, by the police, and took out a silent protest rally from the Hanamkonda chowrastha to the Collectorate.
They submitted a memorandum to the district Collector Mr B N Ekka. They alleged that the government was “being run from Rome” and AICC President Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, and DGP Swaranjit Sen, who are all Christians, “have joined hands to frighten Hindus in the State.”
They demanded action against police officers who allegedly beat up BJP activists during their crackdown. The leaders said that the activists had nothing to do with the killing of pastors in Hyderabad.
