Church Sponsored Terrorism in Tripura
by Dhruvajyoti Barua
Last month the Tripura government made the shocking revelation that they had irrefutable evidence about the complicity of the Baptist Church's involvement in backing of separatist terrorist groups! Tripura state police had uncovered details of the direct link between the Church and the terrorists after intensive questioning of an influential church leader.
That leader was Nagmanlal Halam, the secretary of the Noapara Baptist Church in Tripura. Halam was arrested for possession of a large quantity of explosives to the tune of 60 gelatin sticks, 5kg of potassium, 2kg of sulfur and other ingredients for making powerful bombs . It was two junior members of the same church, that had been arrested earlier who tipped the police off about the explosives which were meant for terrorist organizations like the National Liberation Front of Tripura. It is this very terrorist organization which kidnapped and abused several RSS volunteers a few months ago.
Mr. Halam has confessed to buying and supplying explosives to the NLFT over the past two years. Another church official, Jatna Koloi, who was also arrested has admitted that he received training in guerrilla warfare at an NLFT base last year.
It has now become apparent that the pattern of forced conversions at gunpoint are irrefutably linked to the Baptist Church in Tripura. For decades Tripura's indigenous tribal population has been dragged out of their homes and forced to convert to Christianity under threat of violence. Whenever any of the tribals organize Hindu festivals or rituals, the terrorist groups attack to desecrate and kill the participants. Just last year the terrorists had issued a "ban" on the Hindu festivals of Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja. The terrorist NLFT's manifesto clearly spells out that their objective is to " expand the kingdom of God and Christ in Tripura."
The Baptist Church of Tripura was initially set up by militant missionaries from New Zealand 60 years ago. Despite their efforts even until 1980, only a few thousand people of Tripura had converted to Christianity. This is when the Baptist Church decided to initiate violent conversions in order to hasten up the process of gaining control of Tripura. In 1980 a mass scale ethnic riot was engineered by the Church in which systematic ethnic cleansing of Hindu and Buddhist Tribals was initiated. Thousands of women were raped and kidnapped and forced to convert to Christianity.
The terrorists receive military aid from extremist Christian groups in Australia and New Zealand. They also have ongoing exchanges with Islamic terrorist and ISI who push in arms from the Bangladeshi border.
When the RSS and other Hindu organizations decided to help the Hindus under attack in Tripura by aiding them in reconversion, hundreds of the RSS volunteers were attacked, threatened and blackmailed. Several of them were murdered and last year a number of them were kidnapped and held hostage by the Christian terrorists. To this day, it is not known if those men are still alive.
Perhaps most shocking of all is the fact that Indian media has not even mentioned these recently unearthed facts in their coverage. Whereas even unconfirmed rumors about any attack on Christians are immediately touted as "An assault on minorities", not a word is spared to enlighten the Indian citizenry about the religious terrorism that is taking place in Tripura. Instead of analyzing why such terrorist attacks by Christian missionaries will naturally lead to resentment and reprisals on the part of poor Hindus and Tribals, our media is busy in its political game of trying to establish non-existent links between attacks on Christians and the ruling party.
