Nepal: Couple Arrested for Forcibly Converting Minors

Police have arrested a Christian couple who manage an orphanage and school in Nepal and charged them with forcibly converting minors, a legal offense under Nepali law.
Babu and Sabitri Varghes who established 'Blessed Children’s Home' for orphans in the southern city of Birganj in 1995, were arrested on April 27. EquipNepal, an American missionary charity provides financial support to the orphanage. Sabitri is a Nepali national whereas Babu immigrated from India. They established an English medium school and most of its students are Hindus. The couple used the opportunity to brainwash and baptise the innocent souls.
Conversion is a burning issue in Nepal today as it is a poor nation with very high-unemployment rates further burdened by Maoist insurgency. US based missionary agencies are trying to cash in on the prevailing conditions and placed Nepal in its top priority list.
