The Conversion Agenda

"Freedom to convert" is counterproductive as a generalized doctrine. It fails to come to terms with the complex interrelationships between self and society that make the concept of individual choice meaningful. Hence, religious conversion undermines, and in extremes would dissolve, that individual autonomy and human freedom.

Madras High Court Orders Seizure of Travel Documents of Foreign Evangelists

http://dharmabhoomi.blogspot.com/
Saturday, July 09, 2005

By its order dated 06/07/2005, The Madras High Court has directed the Superintendent of Police, Krishnagiri District, Krishnagiri to seize the travel documents of Ron Watts and Dorothy Mary Watts and to deal with them in accordance with law.

Which in simple terms means the High Court issued directions to the Superintendent of Police, Krishnagiri District, to execute the Leave the Country Notice of the Ministry of Home affairs, New Delhi, Letter No: 17016/3/98/ F.VII dated 2/7/2003 and the orders dated 05/09/2003 Letter No: 3608/A1/2003-1 given by the Under Secretary to Government, Public (Foreigners) Department, Secretariat, Chennai-600 009.

It is still a wonder to me as how he managed to stay in India and convert so many people after being served with this notice in 2003. It has also become apparent during the investigations that he has not cared to register with the District’s Superintendent of Police and the concerned officials under the Foreigners Act, meaning he has not only overstayed and has abused the Bharatiya hospitality but also flouted Indian laws with practiced ease.

Ron Watts is currently in USA. He was re-elected last week as the President of the Southern Asia Division of the Seventh Day Adventists in the General Conference held in amidst great fanfare. His minions went ecstatic in announcing the reaching of the One million mark of Adventist conversions in India under the stewardship of this virulent proselytizer.

Reports have reached me that the Advocate of the Adventists in India, Gladys Daniel, the lady who latches on to the coat-tails of Nalini Chidambaram, Attorney wife of P.Chidambaram, Union Finance Minister, Government of India; made an open declaration to the General conference that there is no pending LEAVE THE COUNTRY NOTICE on Ron and Dorothy Watts. (Readers are informed that this order has been very much alive and has NOT been quashed by any Court of Law and neither has been withdrawn by the Union Home Ministry as of date). I am told that she went to the extent of calling the case against him in Madras High Court as a FAKE CASE.

She is reported to have said about another case against his deposition before the Additional District Magistrate, Pathanamthitta, Kerala that they have gone on appeal in the Kerala High Court and the petition is pending before the court and that they would certainly get a favourable judgement. While the truth as I am told is that this appeal on behalf of Ron Watts has already been dismissed as infructuous by the Hon’ble Kerala High Court.

We are also informed that the White men in the General Conference, the Adventist NRIs and the 200 strong contingent of Watt’s supporters, took her very seriously because of her position as the Junior Advocate to the wife of India’s Finance Minister. For a change, a native played the white queen in the General Conference, rendering the Bishops on the board as pawns around her. She was treated like royalty. Alas, power percolates through close layers.

Coming back to Ron Watts, he still is in USA. On Day one feeling like the Londoner who beat the French to host the Olympics. And the very next day reeling under the bomb blasts. Watts desperately wants to come back to India. He knows where the Power and Money is. He wants to convert more gullible Hindus to Christianity. But the Court order means that he should be arrested at the airport when he lands in India and dealt with as per the laws of the land.

Has Ron’s time, run out?

Southern Asia: Seeing Jesus' Face, God's Power Daily

July 6, 2005 St. Louis, Missouri, United States .... [Mark A. Kellner/ANN]

In a simple, yet elegant, report, the Southern Asia region of the Seventh-day Adventist Church noted not only 600,000 baptisms in the past five years, but also how God's power is working daily in their part of the world.

"If you want to see Jesus, come to India, for we see His face every day," declared Pastor D. Ronald Watts, regional president of the Adventist Church. "If you want to know the power of God's Spirit, come to India."

The report, delivered on the evening of July 6 at the 58th General Conference Session in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, highlighted the deep spiritual needs of a region where the one million Adventist Christians make up only one-tenth of the population. Each of the 100 Southern Asia delegates on the stage represented 5,000 villages where the Gospel has yet to be preached and 50 people groups yet to be reached, Watts said.

Church official Dr. M.C. John reported on the importance of having church buildings in newly entered areas.

Noting that many in India don't feel worthy to enter traditional temples, the presence of a church building offers an instant sense of community, he said: "In cases where a church is built before public meetings are held, congregations are growing more quickly. Churches become a village center."

"A church building is more than just a church building, it is a symbol of God's presence," Dr. John added.

As important as church buildings are in India - during the report, Maranatha Volunteers International president Don Noble said the group had completed its 1,000th new church building - so, too, are the stories of lives in cities and villages touched by the power of Jesus' love.

In Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, a woman's breaking of family idols led her husband to question their worth: "Is there a God that wouldn't break," he asked? Working with an Adventist, they became believers and were baptized.

In a rural area, a husband and wife, Moses and India, were robbed of their money and Bible while en route to a meeting. They continued unharmed, and when they returned the following week, they found the robber had been converted and was apologetic, returning what he had taken.

These and other stories, presented with slides and animations, were but a sample of what God is doing, Watts said. He credited volunteers and donors for helping, and praised his team of regional leaders, workers and pastors as "truly the hands and heart of Jesus in our midst."

There remains a challenge to reach the Southern Asia population, he added, saying "we want to know if you in the world church will stand with us in finishing God's work."
