According to MLA and chairman of House committee on missionary affairs, Mr. A. Vivekananda Reddy, property worth hundreds of crores of rupees has been mis-appropriated and misused. Earlier this year the first house committee under the leadership of Mr. Vivekananda Reddy was set up by Mr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, a born-again Christian himself. On Monday 11/7/05 Mr. Reddy along with committee members MA Gafoor, Varaprasad, Sasidhar Reddy, Christiana Lazarus held a press conference.
Mr. Reddy mentioned that most of the property supposed to be owned by churches and mission agencies are held by inside elements and being misused to promote their self-interests. Thousands of acres of fertile land have been sold to church member's relatives for nominal prices. Schools and Hospitals are on the verge of closure due to lack of funds for maintenance and many playgrounds have been encroached. Mr. Reddy mentioned that the situation is so bad that many churches cannot even afford to have fresh paint work done. Furthermore as soon as the house committee was setup many more church officials tried to dispose off the property and exit out.
