Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh Chief K S Sudarshan today said a large number of Sikhs in Punjab had converted to Christianity.
The charge was contested by Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) president and former state Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who told reporters here that no conversion of Sikhs had taken place in the state.
Addressing the sangh's volunteers here, Mr Sudarshan said various Christian outfits had undertaken conversions in different parts of the state including Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and a large number of Majahabi Sikhs had adopted Christainity.
He termed unfortunate the allegation levelled against the RSS that it was involved in the conspiracy that led to Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.
Even then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had stated that records and evidence indicated that there was no role of the RSS in the assassination.
However, the Government had imposed a ban on the Sangh which was emerging as a powerful organisation, Mr Sudarshan added.
He reacted sharply to the demand from a Christian outfit for a ban on his entry in the state.
''Why ! we are moving in our country Hindustan not Esaistan (Christianland) then why should be we prevented from going to one place or the other'', he said.
He said certain Christian and Jehadi Muslim outfits were engaged in achieving political goals in the name of Christianity and Islam.
Punjab Christian Movement had demanded a ban on the entry of Mr Sudarshan in Jalandhar which had led to a clash with activists of the Hindu Yuva Manch here last week.
